California Participation Project Training in LA!
Election Day – NOVEMBER 2 – is less than two months away! With nine propositions to consider, California voters will once again be voting on public policy at the ballot box. Do we want to suspend state laws that reduce greenhouse gas? Do we want to legalize marijuana?
The California Participation Project (CPP) believes that nonprofit staff and volunteers are the ideal messengers to communicate to their constituents about what’s on the ballot, yet many nonprofits don’t know that they can support or oppose propositions. That’s why CPP provides resources, tools and trainings to help nonprofits integrate voter engagement into their ongoing work. Nonprofit staff have frequent, sometimes daily, contact with some of our most under-represented citizens. By providing healthcare, legal services, housing, education, childcare and more, they develop trusted relationships with their clients and can play an important role in educating their constituencies about the democratic process, while also building political strength for their nonprofit.
California Common Cause is co-sponsoring the CPP upcoming Voter Participation Training on Wednesday, September 22 in Los Angeles. It will cover voter participation basics for nonprofits and review nonpartisan guidelines for 501(c)(3) organizations. Participants will develop a voter engagement plan for their organization which will include ideas for doing voter registration, voter education, engaging the candidates and getting out the vote – in the course of their ongoing work. Plus, learn where to go for voter participation materials and resources. For more information or to RSVP, please visit www.caparticipates.org.
