Model City Council Resolution to Overturn Corporate Personhood

In the wake of last week’s unanimous City Council vote in Los Angeles to adopt a resolution that called upon Congress to pass a constitutional amendment that would clarify that corporations do not have the same constitutional rights that real people do and that because money is not speech, limits on campaign spending will protect the values of the First Amendment, I have received numerous requests for model language that could be used in other cities.

Here is a draft that could be adapted to any given city or state legislature. It is based upon a compilation of a number of resolutions that Common Cause chapters have been supporting.
