Money in Politics on Oregon Public Broadcasting

Listen below to a recording of Bob Edgar talking with host David Miller and Brad Smith, founder of the Center for Competitive Politics, about the impact of Citizens United on our elections.

AIR DATE: Wednesday, February 15th 2012

The injection of millions of dollars of SuperPAC money in the 2012 election cycle has prompted Oregon Senators Wyden and Merkley to support a Constitutional Amendment that would allow for the regulating of campaign contributions. The U.S. Supreme Court ruling known as Citizens United makes it virtually impossible to regulate money in elections, and those on the left say the only option remaining is the amendment route.

Do you support such an amendment? What role do you think financial contributions should play in elections? How — if at all — should contributions be limited?

  1. When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get three e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service? Thanks!

  2. Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
