Don’t Hate the Players

Hey, I don’t make the rules, I just play the game.

That’s essentially what Newt Gingrich’s wealthy donor Sheldon Adelson says in a forthcoming issue of Forbes:

“I’m against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections,” [Adelson] shrugs. “But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it.”

Reminds me of Obama campaign director Jim Messina’s line:

“With so much at stake, we can’t allow for two sets of rules in this election whereby the Republican nominee is the beneficiary of unlimited spending and Democrats unilaterally disarm.”

Whoever does make the rules ought to think about taking some of the pressure off these folks, who are just trying to get by in this crazy world.
