VIDEO: Busting The Filibuster On MSNBC

Melissa Harris-Perry is a dynamic host who brings together a variety of voices in an engaging setting every weekend. So I was thrilled when she invited me back yesterday to discuss the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster rule and Common Cause’s work to put a stop to its abuse.

We had a really great conversation about how to get Washington working for people again, and to spread the word about our work to get the Senate back from the brink of dysfunction.

I also clarified the difference between holding the floor to talk substantively about the issues, like Bernie Sanders did for 8 hours in 2010, and abusing a procedural loophole to shut down debate entirely:

The first court hearing for our lawsuit to stop the unconstitutional filibuster is coming up on December 10–until then, you can check out the latest filibuster news on our website. You can also let your Senators know–it’s time to end the gridlock and fix the filibuster.
