VIDEO: Jon Stewart Skewers Filibuster Abuse
Filibuster reform has been all over the news lately, and with good reason–partisan obstructionism is set to make this Congress the least productive in history. As our own Stephen Spaulding told Melissa Harris-Perry this past weekend, any Senator can make it much harder to pass important legislation just by sending an e-mail (10 votes harder to be exact).
Comedy Central funnyman Jon Stewart has a talent for exposing the contradictions and hypocrisies that plague Capitol Hill, and last night, he took aim at what he called “The Men Who Stall On Votes“:
Stewart is right when he calls Congress dysfunctional, but with so many problems facing our nation and such important work to do to fix them, that’s no laughing matter. That’s why Common Cause is fighting back against filibuster abuse–stand with us and let your Senator know it’s time to reform the filibuster and end the gridlock.
We’ve also sued the Senate to stop the unconstitutional filibuster, and we have an important hearing this coming Monday. Until then, keep an eye on our website and our Fix The Filibuster page on Facebook for the latest updates.
