The writer doesn't understand the function of the 'independent commission' to the political left. It is 100 percent political, as was the 911 commission, but it can feign objectivity and arrive at bipartisan-sounding conclusions. For example, the recommendations of the 911 commission are treated as tho coming from the burning bush, yet the commission was considerably less expert than we would use to address even the most mundane engineering problem. The commission also fully protected the actions of elected Democrats from the Church commission, that destroyed our humint capability, to the Clinton Administration that pretty much destroyed everything else.
With a Congressional investigation the politicians can not pretend to be anything other than what they are.
Please consider this when deciding whether to support the CC initiative.
