I'm sorry if it sounded like I was making light of the situation.  That was never my intention.

Of all the elected officials currently under criminal investigation, William Jefferson is one of the more blatantly corrupt.  He doesn't seem to feel ashamed in the least for using his position to increase his own personal wealth, and that's Bob-Ney-appalling.  How he convinced the people of his district to reelect him is beyond me - but if he really cared about doing what's right for his constituents (and he's yet to show any indication that he puts the people's needs before his own), he would resign and let someone who really believes in public service have his seat.
