Connecticut's Moment to Make History

Last week we scored a huge victory in New Mexico , when the efforts of our activists made Albuquerque, New Mexico's largest city, the first city in the country to pass a clean elections measure by popular referendum. We now have another opportunity to achieve clean elections reform in Connecticut (this time through legislative means), continuing the momentum for publicly financed elections across the country.

Yes, thanks to the work of thousands of Common Cause and campaign finance reform activists pressuring Connecticut leaders to end the cycle of corruption, Governor M. Jodi Rell (R) has called a special legislative session for Tuesday, Oct. 11, to pass the most comprehensive campaign finance reform package ever proposed in Connecticut.

This is Connecticut's moment to make history. We already have sent out an all-points-bulletin to all Common Cause activists around Connecticut to come to the Hartford state Capitol at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 11 to show legislators that in the wake of the worst scandal in state history the people of Connecticut expect action not words.

So if you are reading this from Connecticut or anywhere around the Constitution state, please join us at this special rally so that we can let those Hartford lawmakers that they cannot let campaign finance reform slip through their fingers. Here are the details for our rally:

  • What: Special Rally for Clean Elections in Connecticut
  • When: October 11, starting at 9:30 am
  • Where: 210 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT

So please make your plans today to bring your friends, neighbors, and relatives with you to the Capitol on Tuesday. For more information on our ongoing efforts in Connecticut, please make sure to visit our website for Common Cause Connecticut.
