Your calls are making a difference ...

Check out this Mike Allen report in the Washington Post this morning:
With some members increasingly concerned that DeLay had left himself vulnerable to attack, several Republican aides and lobbyists said for the first time that they are worried about whether he will survive and what the consequences could be for the party's image.

"If death comes from a thousand cuts, Tom DeLay is into a couple hundred, and it's getting up there," said a Republican political consultant close to key lawmakers. "The situation is negatively fluid right now for the guy. You start hitting arteries, it only takes a couple." The consultant, who at times has been a DeLay ally, spoke on the condition of anonymity, saying he could not be candid otherwise.

At least six Republicans expressed concern over the weekend about DeLay's situation. They said they do not think DeLay necessarily deserves the unwanted attention he is receiving. But they said that the volume of the revelations about his operation is becoming alarming and that they do not see how it will abate.

They should be concerned. They are hearing you loud and clear.  Keep up those phone calls to the GOP leadership offices urging them to demand the Ethics Committee to fully investigate the latest rounds of ethics allegations against Mr. DeLay.

Making calls . . .

I called everyone on the Republican leadership list, but first I called my own congressman, Bob Ney's office. Rep. Ney has been linked to the Abramoff/DeLay/Indian-Gaming/Golfing-in-Scotland story and has responded by saying he was "duped" by Abramoff.

It's not particularly comforting to hear one's representative admit to being scammed by a corrupt lobbyist; still, I hope Rep. Ney is telling the truth. So when I called his office I suggested that he should co-sponsor Mollohan's resolution because that would signal to voters out here in Ohio's 18th District that he has nothing to hide.

Then I called the other folks on the list, explained my special concerns as one of Bob Ney's constituents, that I thought he should co-sponsor the resolution and that Republicans need to rescind those ethics rules and let this investigation move forward.

Everyone I spoke with was very patient and polite. Now I'll be watching to see if politeness translates into doing the right thing on the House floor.

making calls

I watched Jim Lehrer on channel 12. Chellie made the point clear in reference to Tom DeLay and a need for the ethics committee to investigate Mr. DeLay's activities. I noticed the man representing the issue for republicans agreed with Chellie but he also referred to those of us wanting this investigation and ethics rules change back as "left wing" liberals. I truly resent this as a way of making any honest opposition non-credible. I am a registerd republican and I think it is time to vote all these people out of office as we did the democrats who forgot they are representing the people.

Ethics in the House & Tom DeLay in particular

The Christian Right(conservatives) seem to rely on their Christian values as their standard, yet they seem to support things that are the anthesis of that.
The House Ethics Committe has had any censoring power removed from it by the Republican Right vote & they removed the Republican from chair who wasn't afraid to speak out & not lock step with the wishes of the Bush Regime.
Bush says he wants to build bridges, yet he & his regime do numerous things which support the observation that they will settle for nothing less than all or nothing.
They wish to live in a world that is plus or minus & refuse to acknowledge that there has to be discussion, argument & compromise.
Restoring power to the Ethics Committee & blocking the "nuclear option" proposal in the Senate is essential so that ALL THE PEOPLE can be heard..... ALL OF THE TIME.
