Paper Trail Lobby Days Officially Underway ...

Just got back from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) headquarter, the site where we are holding our training sessions for lobby days. It's a packed house over there.  As I mentioned earlier this morning, folks from all corners of the country - from Vermont to California, Washington to Florida, have come into town on their own dime, learning how to lobby for a legislation that will ensure accurate and verified counts of our votes via paper trail. Chellie lead off this morning's session, welcoming all the activists for joining this lobbying efforts coordinated by the coalition of Common Cause, Verified Voting, VoterTrustUSA, VotersUnite.org, and Working Assets.  Here are couple of pictures from this morning's session:

If you need more information on the paper trail lobby days, including the most up to date schedule go here.  We will post more updates and pics in next couple of day. Stay tuned.

The excitement of lobby days!

We, the interns, helped to plan and facilitate the wonderfully successful paper trail lobby days. 65+ activists poured in from all corners of the country, crowding the offices of lawmakers Thursday and Friday. They shared their voting experience stories with us throughout the two days. Some were election officials who had seen first hand the malfunctions of the election process. Everyone was a concerned citizen.

Overall the Lobby Days were a great experience for everyone involved. Even the straggling New Yorkers, unable to meet with their own congressmen, enjoyed meeting with Iowa representatives. Although the lobbyists all traveled from great distances on their own dime, the chance to make their opinions heard was well worth the expense.
One 72 year old mother and daughter dedicated duo drove 11 hours from Illinois with a passion for election reform after witnessing malfunctions at their precincts.

As this was our first lobby day, it was inspirational to see the swarms of dedicated individuals who would go to great lengths to affect change in the broken electoral system.
