DeLay Indicted ...

The news just broke:
A Travis County grand jury today indicted U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on one count of criminal conspiracy, jeopardizing the Sugar Land Republican's leadership role as the second most powerful Texan in Washington, D.C.

The charge, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years incarceration, stems from his role with his political committee, Texans for a Republican Majority, a now-defunct organization that already had been indicted on charges of illegally using corporate money during the 2002 legislative elections.
And, it's all over CNN. We will have a statement later this afternoon.

[UPDATE 1:13 pm EST]Per CNN Speaker Hastert will recommend Rep. David Dreier of California to step in for DeLay:
GOP congressional officials said Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., will recommend that Rep. David Dreier of California step into those duties. Some of the duties may go to the GOP whip, Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri. The Republican rank and file may meet as early as Wednesday night to act on Hastert's recommendation.

Here is the story.

[UPDATE II 1:55 pm EST] Here is a PDF copy of the indictment (via FindLaw).

Dreier

A surprisingly good showing by Republican Leadership, I figured everyone would fight for the spot.

Dreier is a good man that should fill the position well.

Re: Dreier

All on a sudden it's not clear. I am hearing it could Blunt from MO. Actually the Washington Post and Fox homepages are saying its Blunt. So I guess we will have to stay tuned.

Re: Dreier

Problem for Republican'ts is that Drier is gay.  A homosexual.

'Course, we all realize that only matters if one isn't a Republican't.

Got this from a friend...

...but thought I'd share.  Enjoy:

Happy day, though there was a delay getting Tom,
but now we're closing in on the bum.
He's step one; keep your eyes on the prize.

Remember to keep Frist things first
and keep Bill at the top of your list
if you're looking to shut down more lies.

I've got an idea that's hot from the stove
You can end the trilogy by corralling Rove;
just follow the stench and the flies.

Kudos to CC--y'all done did something good

Re: Got this from a friend...

You are a loser.  The GOP thanks you and the other clueless libs for another easy victory in 2006.  Keep your message up!

Tom DeLay and Bob Packwood

As a lifelong resident of Oregon, I was naturally always paying more attention to Oregon politics than to politics in other states.  Tom DeLay's resignation (thank God it finally happened!) is analogous to something that happened in Oregon ten years ago this month.  Over the previous months, several women had accused Sen. Bob Packwood of sexually molesting them.  He of course tried to deny it, but then a teenage girl accused him.  Needless to say, Packwood couldn't hold out after that, so he resigned in early September, 1995.

Well, it's good to know that these two creeps are out of our government, but there is still work to do.

DELAY

This is exactly what America needs--to rid itself of the corrupt government officials who are not representing the people--they support their own agenda. We still have a president that is long overdue for impeachment as he is destroying our country.
