Liberal judges take away rights of the citizens

Here is the first paragraph of an article in an AZ newspaper:

"Arizona elections officials on Friday resumed registering voters without requiring proof of citizenship, even while the state attorney general planned to ask a federal appeals court to reconsider its injunction blocking the requirement."

Several years ago we the citizens of Arizona voted into law, Proposition 200, that required a voter to show proof of citizenship in order to vote in order to prevent voter fraud and illegal aliens from voting. Forty-seven percent of Latino Americans in AZ voted for this law also.

Then liberal special interest groups come along, you know the ones you see Common Cause always allying themselves with, the ACLU, the League of Women Voters, etc., and even a Mexican Supremacy group that promotes hatred against white Americans, and challenge this law that we the voters have voted into law. These special interest groups lose the first round in the courts as a judge strikes their lawsuit down, so they appeal it to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco where two liberal judges decided against what we the voters decided for our own state. Amazing isn't it, the people in power in another state, can take away what we the people have chosen.

I guess when a law that stops voter fraud and helps prevent illegal aliens from voting gets stopped against the will of the people, Common Cause says nothing, and does nothing because this will help the Democrats win more elections. I just hope someday Common Cause stops the lies about being nonpartisan and admits there are no conservatives on their staff and their writings always lean left.  ¡Viva la verdad!

Things that make you go hmmm...

Check out this White House "take-out-the-trash" story in the Washington Post this morning.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/06/AR2006100600965.html

Among the many shocking revelations, what I find so unbelievable is that four Wizards floor tickets were worth $1,300 in 2001. For sub-.500 basketball?

Give me a break

Ad hominem attacks are the instruments of those who don't have a leg for an argument to stand on.  We're not the ACLU, we're not felons, we're not cheats, and we're not liars.  We are everything it says in our mission statement.  I'm not sure why in the world you wouldn't agree with our ideals, but if that's the case then we're not the organization for you - but we're still the organization for the public interest.

And finally, I've said it before and I'll say it again: the ACLU and us don't always see eye-to-eye.  In fact, they are one of our loudest opponents on the issue of campaign finance reform, and most recently challenged the Clean Elections law we helped pass in Connecticut.  On other issues they may be part of the coalition we work with to see reforms pass.  Politics makes strange bedfellows, and your friend on one issue is often your enemy on others.

Give us a break

Kirstin,    Part of your mission statement says:

"Together, Common Cause and CCEF programs serve the organization's overall mission to:

Ensure that government and the political process serve the general interest, rather than special interests"

Yet, we the citizens, the voters, the majority decided that Proposition 200 was what we wanted for the our state in AZ. We wanted people to have to show ID and prove they were citizens in order to prevent voter fraud and illegal aliens from voting.

Then comes along special interest groups such as the ACLU, the League of Women Voters, the Navajo Nation etc, and try to take away what we the voters decided. So how are you fulfilling your mission by saying and doing nothing against this group of special interests, this is a clear case of special interest groups, going against the general interest of the voters of Arizona?  Why aren't you sticking up for the little man, against powerful liberal special interest groups?

Es lo mismo

"this is a clear case of special interest groups, going against the general interest of the voters of Arizona?"

Unfortunately, La Perla, you've summed it all up.  Special interest groups fall on all sides of the political spectrum, and on all sides of every issue.  Corporations, ethnic groups, social organizations, religious denominations, and even public interest advocates -- everyone is a "special interest group."

In any situation where one faction (even if that faction is a majority of voters) supports A, there will always be an opposition that supports B.

The solution, if there is one, is to equalize the playing field by getting money out of politics.  How else can the average solitary citizen have a voice equally powerful as that of Lockheed Martin, or even of the ACLU or the Christian Coalition?

Getting money out of politics - that's how we stick up for the little man.

GOP: 45 large to buy votes in Ohio

In Ohio, a former Toledo-area elections official says he helped a prominent Republican fund-raiser illegally funnel money to President Bush's re-election campaign out of fear.

Wow

Thanks for the link!  The Noe scandal seems like it will never stop growing, much like the Abramoff deal.

What I find most telling - and sad - about this news is Kidd's statement that he illegally fundraised "out of fear."

Kentucky busts Sec'y of State for purged voters

Will they never learn?

Purges of voter rolls sound a decent idea, but they almost NEVER work in reality - deleting the few names that are on the lists in error is not worth the price of preventing thousands of lawful voters from exercising their right.

From Florida, to Texas, now to Kentucky, why are there still people that don't feel faint at the phrase "wholesale disenfranchisement"?

Government Reform

(Feel free to add to this and pass it on.)
When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for citizens, after examining the policies and conduct of their government and finding such detrimental to their security and welfare, to call for drastically altering the makeup of such government so as to end these policies and actions, respect for our fellow citizens demands that we declare the causes and reasons leading to such a decision.

We find ourselves blessed to be citizens of a nation, ruled by laws, that promotes and protects our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  We citizens are blessed to have a government designed with checks and balances to check the vices of mortals and protect these rights.  Prudence and common sense call us to reflect long and hard before drastically changing anything, especially the makeup of a government so designed, for any reason, and, indeed, experience shows that we citizens tend to continue with the people we have elected in the past, rather than put our trust in someone new, unless the elected have violated that public trust.  But when policies and actions put the lives of our military at risk for non-existent reasons, leave thousands of our citizens homeless, expose our nation to potential enemies, erode the substance of hard working citizens, alienate our friends abroad and attempt to take away the liberties this nation has stood for since its inception all for the apparent purpose of establishing a better environment for the privileged few to prosper in and expose the remaining citizens to a tyranny of their whim, those implementing these policies and actions have violated the public trust and need to be replaced with new guardians of our life, liberty and happiness.  Such are the circumstances our elected leaders have provided us citizens and compel us to call for their replacement.  Let the following enumerate these faults to an informed electorate.

This Administration has placed, for the first time in this nation's history, our armed forces in a foreign land through an unprovoked attack, ostensibly to eliminate weapons of mass destruction which did not exist and, when that proved false, to depose its leader, reported to be involved with those who executed the terror attacks on this nation 11 September 2001.  Investigations, both foreign and domestic, have yet to find these weapons or demonstrate a link between this leader and any terrorist, let alone those who executed the 11 September attacks.  This Administration pursued this policy against the advice of almost all the foreign nations we counted as friends.  As a result, this nation has lost stature, influence and credibility in the international community, severely damaging any diplomatic efforts to resolve any conflict anywhere.

On 29 August 2005 this nation suffered an unprecedented natural disaster when a strong hurricane (category 5) landed on the Gulf Coast at New Orleans.  This storm created a surge of water that overwhelmed the levees and flooded heavily populated areas of the city and surrounding areas.  Government response was delayed five days while evidence of the massive devastation beamed into every household across the nation and around the world.  This came after the President said the government was prepared to handle the crisis in a taped conference call before the storm landed but said afterwards that there was no possible way the government could be prepared for such devastation.  One year later thousands have still not returned to their former homes while trailers constructed for their use sit idle.  Many districts still have debris left from the storm to be cleared away.  Many still wait for promised relief while audits into government relief agencies show millions of dollars of fraud and abuse.

This Administration approved contracts for the sale of facilities in port cities in this nation to companies owned by a foreign government.  This nation has in the past been linked to facilitating the financial and other affairs of known terrorist groups around the world, severely compromising any effective security measures for these facilities and leaving our nation exposed to attacks from such groups.

This Administration has backed legislation designed to allow those who entered this nation illegally to remain here and has blocked legislative and enforcement efforts to secure this nation's borders, encouraging others like them to do the same and exposing us citizens to drug trafficking and other potential attacks.  This has suppressed wages for citizens and strained the social and medical services designed to benefit the citizens of this nation.

This Administration has chosen to select the opinions and theories of the very small minority of scientists who maintain that human industrial activity is not proven to be a contributing factor to current worldwide climate change.  These scientists receive their support and funding from organizations established to protect the interests of those in charge of the industrial activity, severely compromising their credibility.  This policy has delayed or forestalled concerted efforts by the nations of the planet to effectively control this climate change and mitigate its catastrophic consequences to the world's population.

Each of these actions has had the effect of increasing the wealth of those privileged few at the expense of the security and welfare of this nation and its citizens.

For preventing or delaying the enforcement of existing environmental laws necessary for the health and well being of the people.

For collecting personal information on citizens from the records of phone companies without obtaining a warrant in court.

For eavesdropping on the phone conversations of its citizens without due process even though a process is in place for the timely review of these incidents.  This goes on despite rulings from this nation's courts against the legality and constitutionality of the program.

For establishing prisons overseas for prisoners of war while denying their existence.

For using interrogation and incarceration techniques at these and other sites previously thought banned by civilized nations.

For petitioning Congress to pass legislation to allow these and other practices in violation of our Geneva Convention treaty obligations.

Many people, in public and in government at all levels across this nation and around the world, have called on this Administration to explain, modify or eliminate these policies and actions in the name of the justice and humanity this nation stands for.  This Administration's response to those people has been to characterize anyone who disagrees with these policies as against the war on terrorists, discredit them and jeopardize their livelihood, single out those who document these policies in the public media as facilitators of the terrorists, introduce to Congress debates on flag burning and other issues that deflect criticism and identify opponents to these policies and press Congress to allow unprecedented access to the personal information of citizens without review of Congress or any court.  These policies and actions only serve to inhibit a free society and bring this nation closer in character to those we profess to be our enemy.

Therefore, we, the citizens of this nation have the duty to bring to our government representatives who will reform these policies and actions, execute and enforce our laws to promote the general welfare and restore the faith and trust of the people of the world who see this nation as the source of liberty and justice for all.
