72% of New Yorkers Think that State Government is Broken--You Can Help Fix it!

A new Quinnipiac University poll was recently released which found that 72% of registered voters in New York State agree with the statement "state government in New York State is broken and needs to be fixed."
Well, now is your opportunity to help fix state government. Following up on the success of the Reform NY Day of Action held last week, Common Cause New York and other reform-minded organizations are pressuring the state legislature to strengthen the ethics laws governing the legislative branch. That's where you come in.
So, if you're a New York State citizen please take a moment to call your state legislators and tell them that this year you want to see legislation passed that would ban the spending of campaign contributions for personal uses, ban lawmakers from accepting honoraria, and ban lobbyist gifts to lawmakers. Also tell them that you support the creation of an Independent Ethics Commission to ensure that these standards are enforced. Be sure to mention that you are a constituent. You can look up who your legislators are and get their phone numbers here. You should call their district offices--it's a local call AND it has more resonance with their staff.
