Another Abramoff crony pleads guilty

Neil Volz, a former aide to Ohio Representative Bob Ney, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to corrupt Ney and other Members of Congress and their staff.  Volz was Ney's chief of staff, and began working as a lobbyist for Abramoff less than a year after leaving his congressional job, even though doing so violated federal law.  Once at Abramoff's firm, Volz used his former position to influence the voting records of key congressmen, including Ney.  The Associated Press reports:

There were regular meals and drinks at Abramoff's Washington restaurant, Signatures, the unreported use of Abramoff's box suites at the MCI Center Arena, now named Verizon Center, and Camden Yards baseball stadium in Baltimore for campaign fund-raisers, the court papers added.

And:

As part of the course of conduct, Abramoff, Volz and others received Ney's agreement and that of his staff to perform official acts including halting legislation adverse to Abramoff's clients and supporting legislation that favored them, the papers stated.

Still no dishonest Democrats

How amazing, we never hear about any dishonest Democrats who are cheating the system. Well, I guess when you got your heads, so far into the liberal newspaper called the Washington Post, and never bother to open the Washington Times newspaper, you'll never have to see the truth.

News is news

Nadersupporter, I'm not sure why you're accusing me of Washington Post adoration, when the article referenced in this post comes from the Associated Press.

And while you may desire to see more Democrats targeted for ethics violations, we at Common Cause can't control when Members of Congress, their staff, or the people who lobby them, are going to come under legal fire.  The purpose of this post was to let readers of this blog know about a big news item that just developed -- the fact that it was about a Republican doesn't mean that it's not news, and that we shouldn't post it here.

Common Cause learns about the Washington Times

To the CC staff,

There is this newspaper it's called the WASHINGTON TIMES.  It's very similar to your favorite newspaper, the Washington Post, but doesn't have the Liberal-bias to it.  It's also on the Internet at www.washingtontimes.com. I understand it is difficult to read a newspaper that doesn't go along with your left-wing beliefs, and the truth I'm sure offends you sometimes but it's good to at least read it, so  you can all pretend to be "unbiased", I'm sure there are tons of writers for CC that support the right to bear arms, are against Affirmative Action and believe students have the right to pray in school. And whats more, being "nonpartisan" I'm sure it was required reading mandated by Ms. Pingree that you all read BIAS by Bernard Goldberg to make sure you are being fair to both sides.
