The Portland Press Herald reports that the Maine state ethics commission has decided not to pursue any action against state Rep. Kevin Glynn. Glynn, a clean elections candidate, had failed to report a political mailing to constituents as a campaign expense. Moreover, Glynn used some of his own money to fund the mailing. The ethics commission did not find his action as a violation of Maine's Clean Elections Act, saying that the law is too vague and needs to be tightened. The Herald writes:
This is a familiar refrain from the state's dysfunctional ethics panel, but let's assume in this case they have a point about the need to tighten the law.
Maine voters will have an opportunity to voice there concerns about clean elections violations at an ethics commission meeting on July 19. Maine voters should make their voices heard.
