No Ney in November

Today embattled Representative Bob Ney (R-OH) formally requested the removal of his name from the ballot this November.  Because he made this request before August 19, the Republican spot on the ballot will be filled by the winner of a special primary election.  After August 19, Republican party leaders would have gotten to choose his replacement.

Forgive me if I question the sincerity of the following quote:

"He told me he really thought the voters of the district should make the decision in selecting the candidate, rather than the party chairmen," [Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob] Bennett said.

How nice of Ney to think about the best interests of his constituents; now if only he'd been so thoughtful before he decided to peddle his influence.
