So what's on your mind?  Baseball is winding down, though we still have some close races on our hands.  Football is winding up, for better or for worse depending on which team is yours.

And in Washington, the clock is ticking to take care of last-minute business (including DC voting rights) before the end of the session and before Election Day.

So come one, come all, and share your thoughts here.

Making Common Cause more effective

I am a liberal Democrat activist.  Most often, I don't have time or money for phone calls.  But I can email.  So, when you put out a call for action, include an email alternative, so that we can do one or the other.  When I read of a plea to call a 202 number, I either delete the request, or ignore it.
Common Cause needs to give us more alternatives in reaching out.

emails vs. calls

Thanks for the feedback. Most of the time our action alerts do have an email option. But occasionally -- if there is a vote that is coming up in a matter of hours, for example -- we'll ask our activists to call because we know that phone calls will be more effective. Hill offices have to pick up the phone right away when it rings, but they may not sort through emails until the end of the day or the end of the week. We appreciate everything you do to help Common Cause!

Question on Voters First pledge

I think this pledge is a great idea.  I wonder, though, why you didn't include a pledge to debate your opponents?  It would also be great, though perhaps too much to ask from you at this point, to ask that candidates debate ALL opponents. For example, Rod Blagojevich, the incumbent governor in IL, has so far refused to debate.  Republican Judy Topinka and Green Rich Whitney are both on the ballot as well.  Blagojevitch seems particularly afraid to debate Whitney, and pulled out of a scheduled debate when Whitney was invited.

Why does it matter? When there are no debates, incumbents and the candidates with the most money for ads get to be heard, and others don't. Definitely a recipe for corrupt politics as usual.
