Paper Trail Hearing - Today

Acivists in Got Audit? tee shirts

Great crowd of activists at the Congressional hearing today on electronic voting machines.  You can see the hearing online through the House Administration committee's website.  We'll have reports from those who were in the room today later on -- check back soon.  There are now 212 cosponsors for Rep. Rush Holt's bill, HR 550 -- I heard previous skeptics saying his bill is sure to pass next year -- but we'll have to fight to keep it from being weakened.

There was also a lot of talk about legislation that Rep. Holt has introduced, along with companion legislation by Senators Clinton, Dodd and Feingold, to provide funding for elections officials across the country to provide emergency paper ballots for any voter who wants one and as backup in case voting machines fail.  See Barbara Burt's blogs about this bill.

By the way, that's our lobbyist James Benton in the foreground of the photo, sending updates back to the office.

Paper only Please

Paper ballots, counted, tabulated and posted at the local pricinct level is the way to take our elections back from the crooks like Bob Ney and HAVA that had every intention from the onset to steal every elections that we allowed them too!
Do any of you wonder at the incredible arrogance of the Bush/Cheny crime cabal and the majority republicans? They know after all the bluster huff and holler of this upcoming political season they are just going to steal the sucker anyway. Why worry!
All other issues will become moot if we do not return to paper ballots! Period end of story!

Refusal of congress today to give us paper ballots

With our sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, mothers and fathers, grandchildren and friends spilling their blood around the globe to set others free to vote in fair and free elections, why can't congress give me the same  right?

As I watch video of Iraqi's proudly displaying their purple fingers signifying newly found confidence in their electoral process, why am I sitting in my kitchen in America in complete despair, knowing that my congress was not willing to vote today to give me and my family confidence in a free and fair election in November?  Verifiable elections? I guess not for me.

My despair today is two-fold.  I'm in despair over the thousands of Americans who have died and are still dying in Iraq and other countries around the world supposedly for a good reason.
Since Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, I'm still not sure what the latest good reason is.
I'm also in very deep despair today because my congress did not see fit to pass "Emergency Paper Ballot Legislation" to give ME confidence in my country's electoral process.

This is a BLACK DAY FOR DEMOCRACY AND FOR AMERICA.  Diebold rules and Americans are expendable.  My despair sees no end.  SHAME ON OUR CONGRESS.
