Obama in debate: public financing ultimately the answer

There's no bigger political megaphone than the one sitting in front of Sen. Barack Obama for the next few weeks.  He was one of the first presidential candidates (along with Sen. Edwards) to send back our pledge committing to support full public financing of congressional campaigns, and is a cosponsor of multiple good public financing bills in Congress, including the Fair Elections Now Act.

Putting your name on the right piece of paper is important, even critical. But for someone getting the attention that Obama has right now, it's using that mass media megaphone to talk about full public financing of campaigns that does even more to move this country towards a saner political process.  He did just that in Nevada two nights ago:

"That's what we have to fight for." He's right on both counts: it will be a fight against entrenched interests, and we absolutely have to do it.
