Reid firing back

After last week's series of disappointing non-resolutions to the FEC nomination mess, Sen. Harry Reid pushed back and demanded that the White House either remove Hans von Spakovsky or allow individual votes on the slate of FEC nominees.  (Roll Call subscription req'd.)

In his letter to White House COS Josh Bolten, Reid offered his support if Hans were replaced with David Mason, the current chair (who recently ruffled feathers by challenging John McCain's status in the primary public funds system).
Reid also wrote in the letter that should the White House pull von Spakovsky's nomination, he would back the renomination of maverick GOP commissioner David Mason, who was unexpectedly dropped by Bush and Senate Republicans last week.
