Alaska 50 - DC Still Counting

Alaska's Congressional Delegation

Fifty years ago today, Congress passed the Alaska Statehood Act, giving Alaska, among other things, two Senators and a US Representative.

208 years ago, Congress, apparently without noticing what it was doing, allowed Americans living in the then-new District of Columbia to lose their right to representation in Congress.

Today, Alaska has a population of 670,053; DC's population is 581,530 -- both roughly the size of one congressional district.

Alaska has three Members of Congress - pictured here, all under ethical clouds.  DC has one non-voting Member of Congress - no ethical clouds for Delegate Norton, just no vote.

I've got nothing against Alaska and they deserve better representation in Congress, but DC deserves voting representation now.  The Senate needs to vote again to end the filibuster by Senator McConnell and give DC the vote!

Congress manipulates the numbers.

There is so much collusion between the two parties that neither one will allow another blue vote without first matching it with a red vote from somewhere.
We need all new congressional representation.
We should all only support and elect new progressives, and don't waste time turning them out to pasture if they refuse to listen to their constituents.
It's time we take our country back. Get it out of the hands of the pentagon and the corporate fascists who only want to rape the wealth of the resources.

That's right

"There is so much collusion between the two parties that neither one will allow another blue vote without first matching it with a red vote from somewhere."

and that's what this bill does - adds 2 seats to the House, one for DC and the other for Utah (until next reapportionment, when it goes to the next state in line, presumably another red).

they are helping in increase in corruption!

and see what it has lead to...A number of companies involved with the North Pacific fishing industry received subpoenas from federal investigators asking about their dealings with Ben Stevens (who worked as a consultant in the industry), his ex-partner Trevor McCabe (an ex-aide to Sen. Ted Stevens), the Alaska Fisheries Marketing Board (created by Ted Stevens to award federal grants earmarked by Stevens for the industry and chaired for a time by Ben). CIRI, the regional Alaska Native corporation in Anchorage that once had Ben Stevens as a consultant, was also subpoenaed in the investigation, though its officials declined to say what evidence was sought.
