There's still time . . .

The first of July marks many things.  It is early summer, the kids are out of school, cook outs and firework outings are being planned.  Vacations are nearing, and thoughts turn to sun, sand, and swimming.  The hammock in the back yard swings invitingly, and the lemonade is in the fridge.  Time to sit back and dangle one's toes in the water . . .

But hold on - It is also campaign season.  As others are winding down, candidates all over Connecticut are out door knocking, lit dropping, and doing their best to make their case to the voters.  Connecticut's local conventions have been had, and most candidates have their place on the ballot and have filed their citizens election forms.  With all of this already done - is it too late to decide to run for office?  No, it is not!

Candidates can still use a petition drive to get themselves on the ballot, and can still participate in the Citizens Election Program.  In order to be listed on the ballot, candidates need to garner petition signatures equal to 1% of the number of votes cast in the last election for the office being sought.  But why stop there?  If the candidate keeps going and gets signatures equal to 10% of the votes cast, he or she can get a partial grant from the CEP program.  But heck, now that you have your team in place to get signatures anyway - go for broke!  Signatures equal to 20% of the votes cast in the last election will get a candidate the full Citizens Election grant.  This is really an unprecedented opportunity for petitioning and minor party candidates to be on equal footing with major party candidates.

So all of you folks who ever thought of running for office, get motivated and get out there! With such a great opportunity in front of you, now is not the time to dangle your toes in the water.  Now is the time to get a team together and get signatures and run for office!  There'll be plenty of time to sit back and have a beer in November.

Failure of Political and Economic Reforms

Reforms of our essential social institutions, government and economics..., has not eliminated the systemic failures of both.  We continue to have economic depressions and government corruption, as well as the lack of the most important aspect of democracy in our lives..., that is, We, the People, have no direct voice or vote in ALL matters that affect our lives.

We, the People, the electorate majority,  have been sidelined, and rendered voiceless  by this political process, as we have been excluded from the basic industrial processes by which we produce our necessary goods and services, all in the name of that ellusive invisible hand of the "Free Market," whose failure to service a peaceful and prosperous society is all too obvious.

Were We, the People, in direct social  ownership and control of,say, the oil corporations, would We  continue  the kind of "Highway" robbery we are now subjected to at the pumps?

Obviously, the questioning of capitalism is a current taboo, as is illustrated daily by the corporate controlled media..  But capitalism's rules, it's "Profits at society's expense" rules,  should be  a first order ofa national dialogue, if we are to save our society from  OUR continuing downward spiral which is driven by global private corporate profit needs which include out sourcing of American labor...,
controlling foreign oil reserves at any costs, and  the sacrificing of our kid soldiers on potential foreign battlefields..., wherever the U.S. military's presence protects American capital investments in the many countries it is entrenched.

But the private corporations are not the primary culprits. It's the SYSTEM...The corporations must follow cappitalism's rules..., profit or perish, and  are simply the man-made instruments which  benefit the relatively few who own and control them, and in this process, our Federal government has been effectively "privatized" to become an effective population control instrument for the corporate comminities.

There are democracy models which we can discuss and project as positive replacements for this "Free Market" process which has brought our nation to its knees, both domestically and soon globally, as illustrated by the President's "public" begging of the OPEC "Free Market" oil controllers for more oil production, etc.

Question: Did that the President  really want OPEC to increase its crude supplies, or is the "shortage" of oil production, which keeps prices high, a better profit direction for OUR necessary oil industries?

Does the possibility exist  that the Iraq to  INCREASE  in oil production..., OR for its controlled DECREASE, therebye justifiyng the "Free Market" supply/demand rationale to maintain  the continuing rise in prices at the pump, by which  the oil corporations have been accruing recording breaking profits?

#Failure of Political and Economic Reforms

Reforms of our essential social institutions, government and economics..., has not eliminated the systemic failures of both. We continue to have economic depressions and government corruption, as well as the lack of the most important aspect of democracy in our lives..., that is, We, the People, have no direct voice or vote in ALL matters that affect our lives.

We, the People, the electorate majority, have been sidelined, and rendered voiceless by this political process, as we have been excluded from the basic industrial processes by which we produce our necessary goods and services, all in the name of that elusive invisible hand of the "Free Market," whose failure to service a peaceful and prosperous society is all too obvious.

Were We in direct social ownership and control of,say, the oil corporations, would We continue the kind of "Highway" robbery we are now subjected to at the pumps?

Obviously, the questioning of capitalism is a current taboo, as is illustrated daily by the corporate controlled media.. But capitalism's rules, it's "Profits at society's expense" rules, should be a first order of a national dialogue, if we are to save our society from OUR continuing downward spiral which is driven by global private corporate profit needs which include out sourcing of American labor...,controlling foreign oil reserves at any costs, and the sacrificing of our kid soldiers on potential foreign battlefields..., wherever the U.S. military's presence protects American capital investments in the many countries it is entrenched.

But the private corporations are not the primary culprits. It's the SYSTEM...The corporations must follow capitalism's rules..., profit or perish, and are simply the man-made instruments which benefit the relatively few who own and control them, and in this process, our Federal government has been effectively "privatized" to become an effective population control instrument for the corporate communities.

There are democracy models which we can discuss and project as positive replacements for this "Free Market" process which has brought our nation to its knees, both domestically and soon globally, as illustrated by the President's "public" begging of the OPEC "Free Market" oil controllers for more oil production, etc.

Question: Did the President really want OPEC to increase its crude supplies, or is the "shortage" of oil production, which keeps prices high, a better profit direction for OUR necessary oil industries?

Considering the ever present profit motives of all corporate directions, it is not far fetched to consider  that the Iraq invasion was initiated to DECREASE  its  oil production...,thereby justifying the "Free Market" supply/demand rationale to maintain the continuing rise in prices at the pump and  accruing recording breaking profits?

One thing certain... The Iraq invasion has not produced more safe  domestic and global conditions. What to do?  Get involved! Look at the SYSTEM for our problem sources.  Look at and work on alternatives!
