The GOP redistricting resolution submitted to the House Thursday was unable to garner the required three-fifths majority (60 votes) to place it on the ballot. In a dramatic ploy, the Republican then had the resolution immediately reconsidered and amended so it was identical to a Democratic plan from March 2005 (Dispatch 5/26/06). There was a call for adjournment, which did not pass, and the new proposal was voted down with all Democrats except one voting no. This was meant to show that the Democrats were not really serious about redistricting reform.
